Turn bank payments into expense entries.
Upload your bank statement as a CSV. Check outgoing payments in one place, save your business costs and leave personal spending out of your expense totals.
For delivery drivers, taxi and private-hire drivers, tradespeople and other sole traders who want less manual expense entry.

From bank CSV to saved business expense
- Export a statement: download a GBP statement in CSV format from your bank. Supported layouts, including Monzo, are recognised automatically. If needed, choose the columns for dates, payment names and amounts.
- Review outgoing payments: see the payee, description, amount and transaction date. Use date views such as this week, last month or the tax year to find the right records.
- Choose Business or Personal: Business saves an approved cost and opens the next payment. Personal excludes it. Adjust the category, business-use percentage or linked job before approving when needed.
- Check existing records: review possible receipt matches before creating a separate expense. Identical statement uploads are detected so you know when a file has already been imported.
Your approved costs appear in Expenses using the payment date. An uploaded preview is not itself an expense record.
Remember repeated payments with Pro
Mark a payment Personal and remember the choice to keep the same payee out of future review lists. Remember a Business choice to reuse the category and business-use percentage when that payee appears again.
Matching business payments are prepared with your remembered choices for review. Categories and payee names can never establish whether a cost qualifies for tax relief.
Pro also adds recurring expenses, up to 30 receipt scans per month and weekly inbox review reminders. Free includes five receipt scans per month and three standard expense records, with unlimited mileage records. Pro is £3.99 per month after a 14-day trial.
Compare Free and ProYour progress and statements, across devices
Sign in with the same account on the app and website. Bank payment review progress syncs alongside your expense records, helping you continue checking transactions across web, iPhone and Android.
Your original CSV is stored privately in Saved bank statements. Download it later to keep with receipts, invoices and CSV reports, or delete the archived file separately. You can clear an incorrect imported inbox while keeping expenses already saved.
Keeping the original statement helps explain where your records came from. It does not replace receipts or submit anything to HMRC.
Illustrative example
One statement. Only the business portion recorded.
You review a £60 purchase with a 50% business-use share. Approving it records £30 as the expense amount, using the original payment date. A separate personal payment stays out of the expense total. If a matching receipt expense already exists, check the match instead of saving the same cost twice.
Bank statement expense import FAQs
Can I upload a Monzo statement?
Yes. Export your Monzo statement as a CSV and upload it to the Smart Expense Inbox. TaxBuddie recognises supported column names and payment directions. Check the preview before saving any business expense.
Does uploading a bank statement add every payment to Expenses?
No. The inbox previews outgoing payments. Choose Business to save an approved cost, Personal to exclude it, or Decide later to leave it for review. Possible receipt matches let you check whether a cost is already recorded.
What happens if I upload the same statement twice?
TaxBuddie detects an identical statement uploaded to the same account and tells you it has already been imported. Expense matching also helps avoid recording an existing payment again.
Will remembered personal payments appear next month?
With Pro, a remembered Personal choice excludes payments with the same payee name from future review lists. Remembered Business choices apply your selected category and business-use percentage to matching payments so they are ready to check.
Is the original CSV kept?
Yes. A private original copy is stored in Saved bank statements in your account. You can download it later or delete it separately. Clearing your imported inbox keeps saved expenses and archived statements.
Do bank statements replace receipts or decide what I can claim?
No. Keep receipts and other supporting documents alongside your bank statement. You review the business-use portion; a suggested category does not decide tax eligibility.
Is this an automatic bank connection?
No. This feature imports a CSV you upload. Automatic bank connections are not currently available.
